Vic; Motorcyclist dies in crash

Victoria has recorded its first road fatality of the christmas holiday season with
the death of a motorcyclist after a smash in Melbourne's southeast.

Police say the 23-year-old man died in the Alfred Hospital trauma unit, where he was
taken following a crash with a station wagon at an intersection in Carnegie about 12.30pm.

A spokesman for the ambulance service says the occupants of the station wagon escaped
injury in the crash at the intersection of Neerim and Truganini Roads.

Police say the man's death took Victoria's road toll for 1999 to 273, five fewer than
at the same time last year.
